At the beginning of his life, baby has a hard time discerning colors and is more aware of contrasts. Tana Hoban illustrated some awesome board books full of high contrasting images of objects surrounding baby. In French here/ In English here.
You can find many other books while browsing on the web. Usborne Editions published a little box set of four black and white books. Find them in French here. This title, Look, Look! from Peter Linenthal appears to be much loved too.
You could also save the money and print your own images at home. Baby.Zorger made this awesome file you can download and print to help baby with his vision's development. Just hang them in baby's crib or playtime area so he can stare at it for hours.
Jeanne Ashbé
Jeanne Ashbé is Belgian and she illustrates and writes the most beautiful baby books in my opinion. Her books revolve around baby's everyday life. Baby can easily identify himself in her simple drawings. She made a series of books called Lou and Mouf relating the discoveries babies make on daily basis.
Before baby gets the fact that the world is a complicated affair, he has to learn some basic stereotypes. So who are his Mummy and Daddy exactly? In French here/ In English here.
Classic bedtime stories
The Very Hungry Caterpillar (La Chenille qui fait des Trous), Guess How Much I Love You (Devine Combien Je t'aime), Babar, We're Going on a Bear Hunt (La chasse à l'ours), The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit (La nouvelle aventure de Pierre Lapin), Where The Wild Things Are (Max et les maximonstres), Paddington or Winnie The Pooh are all classic stories and characters that I enjoy even as an adult! As C.S. Lewis said it best, "a children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest."
Counting, ABC, Maps, Rhyming and Picture books
Aren't you bored of this post already? Because I am!! You get the idea by looking at the pictures! I want to buy myself the London ABC book because the illustrations are my jam!
